I went to this store on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and purchased an item I thought would work but after getting home and researching it a little more I realized it wouldn't. I took it back, unopened, with what I thought was the receipt to get a return. The cashier had given me the store copy of the purchase, instead of the customer copy. OK, well the store copy is still proof of purchase, right? No, the lady behind the register on Thursday around 2 PM says the store copy is theirs, and takes it from me and hides it behind the counter, and then says since I don't have a receipt for the item, she can't help me. I look for a manager but can't find him, and I have to get back to work, so I gave up and left. I've been working in West Oakland for over 30 years and I give this store a chance every now and then because they're close and convenient but their customer service is so hit and miss to the point where I just feel ripped off sometimes, that I'm going to give up on them. If you don't like handling returns so badly that your cashier gives out the wrong copy of the receipt and then another cashier says that's not good enough to process a return, then why have the policy in the first place?

It says it has propane exchange but once I called and they said they don't have it. That's really an inconvenience, if you don't have it take it off your website. I'm glad I called first rather than wasting my time and going down there.

The staff is friendly sometimes just needing to get their attention but that there is just about anything you can want or need in the way of supplies

I don't live near this hardware store. It's a bit of a grind to drive to here. And there are other hardware stores closer to me. But no matter what I need, I aways take the time and make the effort to patronize this place. Brian is the man who has impressed me with his down home demeanor and helpful approach to treating customers. But, everyone I've met at this store are helpful and knowledgeable. And if you have some time on your hands even the customers can be fun to engage with. I've had some customers ask me if I worked there! Matt says if you need some help with solving a issue with a do it yourself project, take the time to check out this store. It's a cultural experience that will make your day better
